Comments about the Guide to the Continental Divide Trail
We appreciate the kind comments, such as these, that we have received about the CDTS guidebooks.
· We can’t thank you enough for your guides – they were truly priceless.
· Your guides are so dead on that maps were usually redundant.
· Thank you for the guidebooks. I don’t know where I’d be without them (probably still at the Canadian border, trying to find the Belly river trailhead!)
· The main advantage of the Wolf Route is that it was planned by a hiker, Jim Wolf, who was aware that it would be hiked by humans, and that we humans do occasionally enjoy a fresh sip of water, every 20 miles or so. He also was aware that, for most of us, long walks on paved roads cause blisters to pop out on our feet, like mushrooms popping out of the soil after the first rain. So the Wolf Route prefers dirt roads to asphalt. It also tries to include as many hiking trails as possible.
· I would constantly be referring to the text to keep track of where I was and where I needed to go. Waypoints were nice to have although not necessary
· Anyways, the trail was pretty confusing today and we got by just fine which we owe to the incredible detail of the Wolf book.
· I’m not religious, but your books were my bible on a daily basis.
· Your guidebooks are beautifully written for the hiker. Very clear and to the point.
· I can't tell you adequately of my admiration for your precision with language. I came to know that I could count on the true sequence of events from your exact wording
· We couldn’t have done it without your excellent guidebooks and advice. It was the thrill of a lifetime to discover the grandeur and wildness along your route.
· I’ve found the book to be the best resource for staying found, whereas the maps have generally been more of a back up.
· Jim's guidebooks are, in my opinion, the best written guidebooks I've ever encountered on any trail anywhere.
· I found your book (despite being torn into sections) to be well written, no nonsense, and very useful. Thanks for all of your good work!
· We found that most of the time, Jim Wolf's routes were good - he likes the high country, hates PUDs [pointless ups-and-downs] and is after the most scenic route. Sometimes that makes his preferred routes longer and more difficult. Usually they were worth the extra effort.
· What a joy to have guide book directions that almost always made good sense.
